The interface is mostly a shortcut.
Place your cursor in an email, message, or note. Hold the fn/Globe key, speak, and release. Saylight transcribes the recording on your Mac and inserts the words where you were writing.
That simple interaction is the product’s center of gravity. There is no separate writing environment to move into. A hands-free mode lets you start and stop with fn + Space, and the recording shortcut can be changed in Settings.
A local tool for a personal medium.
Voice carries a lot of context. Saylight keeps speech recognition on the Mac, so dictation works offline and recordings are not uploaded to a transcription service. It requires no account and keeps no recording archive.
The visual identity follows the same quiet direction: soft color, open space, and a light touch around an action you may repeat throughout the day. The software is there to help a thought arrive in the place it belongs.
Write where you are.
Dictate into the apps you already use. Say punctuation and paragraph breaks; cleanup can remove common fillers.
Get names right.
A personal dictionary gives names, product terms, and acronyms their intended spelling and helps correct recurring mishearings.
Keep your clipboard.
Text insertion temporarily uses the clipboard, then restores its earlier contents unless you have copied something new.
A way back.
Recover the last transcript from the menu bar if insertion fails, including the original before cleanup. It remains available until you quit.
Focused, and still taking shape.
Saylight is an early release for English dictation on macOS 13 or later, with downloads for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Microphone and Accessibility permissions let it record when asked and insert text into other applications.
It is a small exploration of what on-device AI can feel like in daily use: a familiar shortcut, a brief pause, and your own words on the page.
