A story might begin on a website, but its future should have more than one address. Presskeep makes writing into a complete, signed HTML document: a file you can email, copy to a drive, put on another website, or open in an ordinary browser.
The original stays with the writer. Its signature travels with every exact copy, so readers can check that it came from the same publication and has not changed. Each revision connects to the document’s earlier editions. Moving the file preserves that continuity.
The document comes first.
Presskeep is a desktop publisher and reader for independent writers, reporters, and researchers. Start with a draft, bring in Markdown, or import selected posts from a Substack export or public feed. Imported work stays private until you review and publish it.
Publishing saves and verifies the original before sending any copies. The app reports each destination separately and lets failed transfers be retried. A reader can follow a publication, find later editions, and keep verified copies for offline reading.
The design challenge is to make that independence feel ordinary: a writing surface, a preview, a publish button, and a clear account of where the work went.

Small files, a longer horizon.
Presskeep explores durability as a product experience. Its deliberately limited document format keeps the writing self-contained. A follow code connects readers to a publication across changing locations; an encrypted recovery file helps a writer restore the ability to publish under the same identity.
Availability still depends on people keeping and sharing copies. The signature establishes continuity and detects changes; trust in the writer begins elsewhere.
